Dark Romance

I created a collection of dresses that was inspired by a poem The Raven, by Edgar Allan Poe. However like many of my collections I start with an idea but more often than not end up creating around feelings, desires, dreams and love. Ralph Lauren once quoted “I don’t design clothes , I design dreams” , and i really relate to that. This was my also my first experience using Heritage Carrickmacross Lace.

My interest in the lace stemmed from my husband, being a native of Carrickcmacross, i would often see the Lace gallery on my early trips to the town to visit him. The history of Carrickcmacross lace traces back to the 1820’s, as a means of local women to earn extra money. It became fashionable with Queen Victoria and notable aristocrats of the day. Princess Diana’s wedding dress featured Carrickmmacross Lace and the Duchess of Cambridge followed suit with her wedding dress by Sara Burtons for Alexander McQueen which she incorporated into the bodice.
